In the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Clos Saint Jean perpetuates a winemaking history begun in 1910 by Edmond TACUSSEL. This family estate, now in the hands of Vincent and Pascal MAUREL since 1982 — grandsons of the founder — underwent a radical transformation from 2003 onwards. From a recognised reference point, the domaine established itself as a pillar of the appellation thanks to two emblematic cuvées: "La Combe des Fous" and "Deus Ex Machina". "La Combe des Fous" draws its roots from 22 hectares of La Crau. Grenache (60%), vinified in vats, is combined with Syrah (20%), Cinsault (10%) and Vaccarèse (10%) aged for twelve months in barriques. This approach gives the wine a robust structure that allows delicate aromas to blossom in remarkable harmony. "Deus Ex Machina" offers a singular blend of Grenache (60%) and Mourvèdre (40%). These wines are distinguished by their expressiveness, their generosity and their fruity character, perfectly embodying the modernity that drives Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The entire estate extends over 40 hectares of red grapes and 1 hectare of white grapes, cultivated using sustainable agriculture. The Mediterranean climate and the benefits of the Mistral naturally contribute to the health of the vines.
