On 1 September 1729, Nicolas Ruinart, nephew of Dom Thierry, realised the ambition of his uncle and father by founding Maison Ruinart, the very first Champagne House. This initiative followed a royal decree authorising the shipment of Champagne wine in bottles. To sell his first creations, he approached former clients of the cloth trade, while strategically targeting ports and ships ready to set sail. Success was immediate: by 1735, the House dedicated its activity exclusively to Champagne vinification. Through the generations, excellence has established itself as a true art de vivre at Ruinart. The descendants of Nicolas Ruinart have made quality, authenticity and refinement the pillars of their savoir-faire, remaining faithful to the visionary heritage of Dom Thierry Ruinart, true pioneer of their craft. In 1959, the cuvée Dom Ruinart was born to celebrate the perspicacity of this enlightened founder.
