Domaine Jean Grivot embodies the uncompromising excellence of the Côte de Nuits. This house in Vosne-Romanée, where Hubert Grivot and his sister Mathilde represent the sixth generation, cultivates a resolutely perfectionist approach. The two young heirs took their first steps in the vineyards and cellar alongside their parents, thus perpetuating the family spirit that animates the estate. This transmission of savoir-faire takes place in a serene atmosphere, facilitated by the youth of the newcomers. Under the impetus of Étienne Grivot, vinifications focus on the prestigious appellations of the Côte de Nuits, including jewels such as Richebourg and Clos Vougeot in grand cru. If the cuvées once showed austere in their early youth, the domaine today works them with greater gentleness to make them more welcoming from bottling, without denying their capacity to reveal themselves magnificently over the decades. A family history born in the Jura The Grivot saga begins in the Jura, where the family settled in Arcenant, in the Hautes-Côtes, in the heart of the 17th century. Shortly before the French Revolution, Joseph Grivot decided to sell his Arcenant lands to settle permanently in Vosne-Romanée. However, it was his son Gaston who truly laid the foundations of the domaine in 1919 by acquiring a parcel of Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, adorned with the superb portal that still borders it today. A passionate self-taught man who became an expert, Gaston was among the first graduates of the Dijon oenology school in the 1920s. After the Second World War, his son Jean took the reins, before grandson Étienne joined the business in 1978. Noting a certain softness in the domaine's wines, Étienne persuaded his father to abandon the use of potassium in the early 1980s, then enriched the vineyard heritage with a parcel of Richebourg Grand Cru. The succession of the 1980s Étienne officially succeeded his father in 1987, the year of his marriage to Marielle Bize. From this union were born Hubert and Mathilde, whose commitment and energy within the vineyard are already beyond question. Progressing with determination in the shadow of their accomplished parents, they are already shaping the future of this Burgundian house.
